About Skills Mentoring Service
Our team offers one to one mentoring support to:
- full-time students
- young people not studying, working or training
- young people and adults working and training or university students
We can help you:
- plan your next steps in your education and career
- explore your career options and various opportunities
- identify your strengths and interests
- develop your employment skills

Apply for mentoring support or refer someone
Apply to receive mentoring support from the Skills Mentoring Service by completing the online form below.
You can refer yourself or anyone can refer a young person, including:
- parents
- teachers
- other professionals
If you refer someone aged under 16, you need to have permission from their parent or carer.
Apply or make a referral for mentoring support
Full-time students
You can receive mentoring support when you’re a student aged 11 or above and are in:
- full-time education
- college
- Sixth Form
If you’re a university student, you’ll access different support. Find information below for young people and adults working and training or university students.
You’ll be offered 6 sessions with a mentor to make an individual plan to meet your needs.
We can support you to:
- explore options post education
- explore college and university options
- explore your interests and aspirations
- arrange work insights to find your interests for a future career
- explore different jobs and industries
- support you to write a CV and complete job and college applications
- identify strengths
- explore ways to overcome potential barriers to your progress into higher education or employment
- develop employability skills
We can meet anywhere you feel comfortable, this could be school, college, Skills Jersey office or maybe even a coffee shop!
We can deliver group specific or individual programmes.
Referrals will be reviewed the first week back after school holidays and half terms. A member of the team will be in touch during that week.
Young people not studying, working or training
If you’re aged 16 to 25 and are not studying or working or training a mentor can help you:
- explore your next steps
- look at careers and employment advice
- access a number of short to long term development programmes
We will signpost you to the best support available to you. This can include accessing other government departments and organisations.
A member of our team will contact you within 3 working days.
Young people and adults working and training or university students
If you’re aged 16 or above, are working full-time and training you can receive support from our mentors.
This includes if you’re doing:
- an apprenticeship
- an accredited professional qualification
- CPD (continuous professional development) of at least 3 months
- a degree at university
- other degree and post-graduate qualification
Your mentor can:
- meet you on a regular basis
- act as an independent person to listen and advise
- support with study plans and action planning
- help to prepare you for performance reviews and appraisals
- help you develop your employability skills, such as teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills
- liaise between employers, apprentices and tutors
